I have been flying Top Flite kits and ARFs for over 15 years now, and I have absolutely no reservations about saying they are great kits! They build well, and more importantly, they FLY well, with our Top Flite P-47D being the best flying of them all.
This year at Toledo Weak Signals RC Expo, Top Flite unveiled their latest offering to the RC Warbird crowd - the Giant Scale ARF P-47 Razorback! This kit looks great and I hear it flies superbly (no surprise), as the bubble-top flies like a pattern ship. I understand from the full-scale pilots that the razorback versions of the P-51 and P-47 were a little more stable in yaw than the bubble-top versions. So that should make the 1/5 version track even better!
This version of Top Flite's "Jug" is covered in matte finish MonoKote and features an 85" wingspan, a wing area of 1,329 in2, and a flying weight between 19.5 and 21.5 lbs. It can be setup for both gas or electric power and is designed for a 50cc to 61cc engine. The P-47 Razorback includes a removable hatch for LiPo installation if you take the electric-powered route, a detailed cockpit, fiberglass cowl and landing gear doors, metal gun barrels and a removable antenna.
As excited as I was to see the new kit, I was even more excited to see the Top Flite wanted a realistic pilot in the cockpit and elected Best Pilots Sailor Malan to be in the cockpit of their display model!
And Sailor was even brought up in the RCU review video!
So a big thank you to Top Flite for releasing another great warbird kit and putting a Best Pilot in the cockpit! - Lyle Vasser
