I am always thrilled to see customer's projects. This one really caught my eye, since I tend to have a soft spot for P-51s. The "B" model is a variant that is not seen often on the flight line, and Best Pilots™ customer Jeff Kennemer's looks excellent with drop tanks (another rarity!) and deftly applied weathering effects!
This model is the Jerry Bates Plans 1/5th scale P-51B. The wingspan is 89 " and the engine is a Sachs 3.2 gas engine. The glass fuselage, canopy, and cowl are from VicRc.com and the wing is a wood kit from Bob Holman. The full cockpit and many scale accessories are from Iflytallies.com. The builder is Jeff's good friend John Andrews.
What would a great-looking model aircraft be without a Best Pilots™ in the cockpit! Jeff assigned this aircraft to our Bob Sweeney pilot in authentic, true-scale European theater flight gear. Of the pilot, Jeff wrote, " Lyle, I received your Bob Sweeney pilot fully painted. Beautiful Job! I am real happy with how he fits and looks! Thanks, Jeff". Thank you for your business, Jeff!!
